Before marriage, I mastered the silent treatment. It took nothing for me to shrug off an emotion or confrontation against a wall of silence. I used to think silence worked; at least, we are not arguing, right? My wife argued about immaturity and accountability, but I drowned it in silence (sometimes for days) until eventually it became unbearable for us both. Silence is an awful way to solve a problem, especially in a relationship.
